8 Reasons why we are not a typical law firm

We are not a typical law firm like you may be familiar with. We know that many law firms claim that they are different, but with us, this is truly the case. Over the years we have noticed several misconceptions of Bierens that is sometimes disrupted by the practices of other law firms. Below are 8 reasons why we are not a typical law firm.

1. Expensive partner structure? Not for us!

Unlike many standard law firms, we do not work with partners. We prefer to solve our cases ourselves. While most international law firms make sure of third parties abroad, we have our in-house lawyers. Our experience has proven that this works much more efficiently and effectively because we are not dependent on a middle person. We stick to our own working method and eliminate any forms of miscommunication, allowing us to act as fast as possible.

With regular law firms, we know how hard it is to get hold of your lawyer. However, with Bierens you will always be assigned to your caseworker, meaning that we have shorter lines of communication. You will always have a single contact person ready to guide and answer any questions that you may have.

Our in-house lawyers will always know the status of your case inside out and will be able to help you from the start of your case to finish. If necessary, then our lawyers also travel to the country in which litigation should take place. For example, if you have a debt collection case in Germany and you must follow legal proceedings in a German court, then our German-speaking lawyers can travel to Germany and represent your organisation on your behalf. 2. Creating a win-win scenario: No Cure No Pay debt collection

Our debt collection cases are solved on a No Cure No Pay basis. You only pay an administrative fee, which we try to collect from your debtor once we retrieve the claim. We use the No Cure No Pay principle for all our cases in the extrajudicial debt collection phase, and in 95% of the cases that we solve, we are successful in doing so! This means that during a successful debt recovery, you are exposed to minimal risk while your debtor pays our fees. This way you are guaranteed the knowledge and experience of a debt collection lawyer for the price of a debt collection agency.

3. Charging 6 minutes for 2 minutes’ worth of work?

If legal action is needed, then unlike most law firms, we do not have a strict time registration system. You only pay for the time that we spend working on your case if we work on your case based on an hourly rate or fixed fee. Did you know that most law firms charge per 6 minutes regardless of how long it took to complete the work? Even when responding to a short e-mail, you will be charged for 6 minutes, even though the task only took 2 minutes to complete. At Bierens, we do not believe in this system. We simply charge per minute. If your lawyer spends 2 minutes working on your case, you will only be charged for 2 instead of 6 minutes. In most law firms, you will be presented with an invoice once your case is closed. However, with Bierens we will always discuss the costs in advance. This way you know exactly what is to be expected and will not be left with any overpriced legal charges.

4. Sleek suits and crafty business?

Most people associate law firms as being very sophisticated, strict, and formal. Here at Bierens, we believe that there is more to than just wearing sleek suits. It is about quality. 5. Article 79(1) of Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG); are you following?

“A party is not liable for a failure to perform any of his obligations if he proves that the failure was due to an “impediment” beyond his control and that he could not reasonably be expected to have taken the impediment into account at the time of the conclusion of the contract or to have avoided or overcome it or its consequences”.

We’re pretty sure that when dealing with a complex case, this is the last thing you would want to see. That is why you need a party who can explain everything in such a way that you understand is feasible within your business operations. We do not overcomplicate procedures by using legal jargon. 6. We work with you

When legal action is required to collect your claim, we do not initiate procedures without your consent. We ensure that our clients are fully informed of the steps that should be taken and what is to be expected from your case. For example, if your debtor refuses to pay in the extrajudicial phase, then we will always make a calculated decision on how likely you will retrieve your claim in the judicial phase. Furthermore, we ensure that we have a respectful approach to your debtor.
