OUR CONTRIBUTION
TO A BETTER WORLD
At Bierens Debt Collection Lawyers, we do more than collect debts and offer legal advice. Each day, we work towards a world where fair trade, social equality and sustainable business go hand in hand. That’s why we actively support community projects, culture, education, and environmental initiatives.
As a family firm, we take our responsibility seriously. Not only towards our clients and colleagues, but also to society.
Our core values
Our values shape everything, we do. They guide how we support clients, empower our people, fulfil our social responsibility, and contribute to a more sustainable legal profession. These three values lie at the heart of our mission:
Justice
At Bierens, it’s not just about collecting payments. It’s about fairness. Every business that delivers a product or service deserves to be paid. We stand up against non-payment and advocate for honest trade, always with a balance between firmness and humanity.
Integrity
Trust begins with transparency. Clear processes, open communication and ethical standards are central to how we work. We carefully choose the clients and partners we work with and decline projects that don't align with our values. Integrity is woven into our systems, training, and daily actions.
Determination to succeed
We are proactive, focused and results driven. We go the extra mile to get the best outcome for our clients. Our team takes initiative, thinks creatively, and acts fast, without losing sight of people. It’s this mindset that delivers impact – in both legal and social settings.
Four pillars of sustainable impact
Our CSR policy is built around four clear pillars. These give structure to our sustainability efforts and make our impact visible and measurable.
From fairer business practices and strong team culture to environmental care and community engagement – these four pillars help us move towards a more just and sustainable future.

Pillar 1:
Encouraging Better Payment Behaviour
A healthy economy depends on businesses paying each other fairly. We help clients recover outstanding invoices, but we also look at the bigger picture.
Our efforts include:
Respectful collection practices that maintain client–debtor relationships
Preventive work like whitepapers, webinars, and contract advice
The Debtcare programme, which gathers feedback from debtors to improve our approach
Input on policy through the VVCM/VCMB’s Hague Committee

Pillar 2:
Our people are our impact-makers.
We invest in their growth, health, and work–life balance. At Bierens, colleagues find a culture of trust and autonomy.
We offer:
A yearly training budget and internal knowledge sharing via the Bierens Academy
Well-being initiatives, fitness classes and ergonomic workspaces
Flexible and hybrid working options
A strong focus on equality, inclusion, and personal development
Regular feedback moments to keep improving

Pillar 3:
Respecting the Environment
We take climate responsibility seriously. That means reducing our footprint and inspiring others to do the same – clients, suppliers, and colleagues alike.
Our actions include:
Cutting CO₂ emissions through electric vehicles and cycling incentives
Tracking our impact with the Environmental Barometer
Upgrading our buildings to improve energy efficiency
Waste separation, in-house recycling, and sustainable purchasing
Bicycle couriers for parcels and mail

Pillar 4:
Giving Back to Society
We actively contribute to a fair, inclusive, and livable society through sponsorships, volunteer work and long-term partnerships. Our efforts focus on well-being, culture, poverty alleviation and education.
Here are some of our ongoing and one-off CSR initiatives:
Zweli Foundation
The Zweli Foundation supports orphans in the Jeppes Reef region of South Africa. Thanks to our ongoing support, the foundation has been able to build a school and ten homes for vulnerable children – with a new home added every year.
Stichting Nationale Operette
We are committed to preserving cultural heritage. Through this foundation, we offer young musicians, singers, and dancers a stage to keep the art of classical operetta alive. The foundation was co-founded by Bierens employees.
Food bank campaigns and blood donation drives
Each year, we organise collection drives for local food banks. We also encourage our colleagues to donate blood during central donation days.
Bierens DOET!
Several times a year, our colleagues perform classical music in care homes, bringing joy and connection to residents.
Bierens Foundation of Arts (BFA)
The Bierens Foundation of Arts is dedicated to supporting young classical music talent. The foundation organises concerts and helps fund musical events such as the Prinses Christina Concours. It also provides direct support to young musicians through training and sponsorships.
‘Meat-Free Week’ Campaign
As part of Meat-Free Week, we shared inspiring vegetarian recipes on social media, encouraging greater awareness around food choices and healthy living.
Trees for All
Our long-standing partnership with Trees for All has helped the world grow greener — our contributions have resulted in over 2,500 trees being planted.
Sports for Charity
We’ve organised multiple sports tournaments where the winners chose a charity to receive a donation. Past recipients include projects in Rwanda, Stichting Hartekind and other worthwhile causes.
